Usually when I shoot something, I shoot it, send the footage off and forget about it. I will then find myself watching tv a year later and a spot comes on and I get a wave of flashbacks. Most recently I got a link from John Deere that has all the videos they send out to dealers. One video brought back a wonderful flood of memories. It was from a shoot over three years ago. I had just gotten my new Nissan truck and its first big trip was to the base of the Grand Tetons. Max was just getting into working with me and we loaded up for the 18 or so hour drive.

Shooting for John Deere is demanding. Long days, lots of down time, and weather makes it a challenge. I also demand a lot out of my assistant. Max, being my son and assistant, many times catches all kinds of hell from me. He is usually in charge of making sure the lens is clean, building the jib, driving the chase vehicle and any thing else I don’t want to do. He also has to listen to me rage about all kinds of crap. Dan Lacy also enjoys this special place in my life. It could be summed up as “clean up my debris field”.
Anyway, our location was amazing, so was the weather. After the Grand Tetons shoot we had three days to get to Iowa for the second part of the shoot. We went roundabout and checked out South Dakota. While we were near Mount Rushmore, we found a cabin and explored. It is a time that I will always cherish. A gem in my treasure chest of memories. Three years later Max still puts up with me. He is awesome, so is Dan.
